Indian Army- Do you have it in you?

A well written article by Deepika Bayala. Her analysis of the Indian
Army is very positive. Those who are at the helm of affairs ought to
take requisite steps to right the ills that has befallen our Country's
most precious and valuable disciplined asset.
The Defence forces today truly, need the image of Youthfulness and
Vibrant Leadership. One of the most glaring decadence is the Physically
Unfit Senior Officers who try to lead the Army. We need to have higher
Physical standards for ranks from Brig to Lt Gen. None of them should
be able to influence or cheat the Medical Boards and try to influence
their postings to safeguard their career. Once we get rid of decadent
Senior Officers everything will fall in place and one would find that
corruption in the Armed Forces is a thing of the past!

Annual Confidential Reports

If one were to study in detail "Exploring New Command and Control Concepts and Capabilities, SAS 050 Final Report prepared for NATO, January 2006", we will get some inputs for writing ACR of Officers in the our Army more relevant.

Based on above Command Model here are some suggestions and recommendations: Officers Revised Rank Structure indicating years of service.

1. Captain (Platoon Commander) 0 to 6 years
2. Major (Company Commander) 7 to 12 years
3. Colonel (Battalion Commander) 13 t0 18 years
4. Brigadier (Brigade Commander) 19 to 24 years
5. Major General (Division/ Corps Commander) 25 to 30 years
6. Lt General (Command Theatres) 30 to 35 years
7. COAS 36 to 39 years

Note: No acting ranks. Lt and Lt Col ranks have been removed.

How to Quantify Leadership Qualities related to Annual Confidential Reports (new system with existing ACR Forms)?

Captain to Colonel: 1 and 0 (digital marking) with no pen picture and no recommendation. Overall grading either 1 or 0.
Brigadier to Lt General: 5 to 9 with pen picture and recommendations.

Note: All courses to carry no weightage for reporting in the ACR. Officers who qualify in every course will get monthly monetary incentive/ stipends. ACR not to be shown to officers and no representation of ACR to be accepted or processed.

This new structure will certainly reduce 90% ills of the existing ACR system. The zero error syndrome that has befallen our Army will get diluted and encourage initiative and superlative qualities of our Junior officers. The greatest advantage will be getting rid of the Top Heavy Fat of the Army Higher Command. You have younger Leaders for combat effectiveness. This new system of ACR is guaranteed to reduce corruption to a very large extent.

I know this is far too fetched for anyone to digest, but only suggestions which if implemented will bring back the glory of Indian Army to the world's best in the shortest time frame. A Fighting Force of par excellence. I am certain many of you too have brilliant ideas to enhance the prestige and honour of our Armed forces. Can you share it with us in any forum?
