Indian Army- Do you have it in you?

A well written article by Deepika Bayala. Her analysis of the Indian
Army is very positive. Those who are at the helm of affairs ought to
take requisite steps to right the ills that has befallen our Country's
most precious and valuable disciplined asset.
The Defence forces today truly, need the image of Youthfulness and
Vibrant Leadership. One of the most glaring decadence is the Physically
Unfit Senior Officers who try to lead the Army. We need to have higher
Physical standards for ranks from Brig to Lt Gen. None of them should
be able to influence or cheat the Medical Boards and try to influence
their postings to safeguard their career. Once we get rid of decadent
Senior Officers everything will fall in place and one would find that
corruption in the Armed Forces is a thing of the past!

Annual Confidential Reports

If one were to study in detail "Exploring New Command and Control Concepts and Capabilities, SAS 050 Final Report prepared for NATO, January 2006", we will get some inputs for writing ACR of Officers in the our Army more relevant.

Based on above Command Model here are some suggestions and recommendations: Officers Revised Rank Structure indicating years of service.

1. Captain (Platoon Commander) 0 to 6 years
2. Major (Company Commander) 7 to 12 years
3. Colonel (Battalion Commander) 13 t0 18 years
4. Brigadier (Brigade Commander) 19 to 24 years
5. Major General (Division/ Corps Commander) 25 to 30 years
6. Lt General (Command Theatres) 30 to 35 years
7. COAS 36 to 39 years

Note: No acting ranks. Lt and Lt Col ranks have been removed.

How to Quantify Leadership Qualities related to Annual Confidential Reports (new system with existing ACR Forms)?

Captain to Colonel: 1 and 0 (digital marking) with no pen picture and no recommendation. Overall grading either 1 or 0.
Brigadier to Lt General: 5 to 9 with pen picture and recommendations.

Note: All courses to carry no weightage for reporting in the ACR. Officers who qualify in every course will get monthly monetary incentive/ stipends. ACR not to be shown to officers and no representation of ACR to be accepted or processed.

This new structure will certainly reduce 90% ills of the existing ACR system. The zero error syndrome that has befallen our Army will get diluted and encourage initiative and superlative qualities of our Junior officers. The greatest advantage will be getting rid of the Top Heavy Fat of the Army Higher Command. You have younger Leaders for combat effectiveness. This new system of ACR is guaranteed to reduce corruption to a very large extent.

I know this is far too fetched for anyone to digest, but only suggestions which if implemented will bring back the glory of Indian Army to the world's best in the shortest time frame. A Fighting Force of par excellence. I am certain many of you too have brilliant ideas to enhance the prestige and honour of our Armed forces. Can you share it with us in any forum?

Women in Defence Forces

I think the Defence Forces are a confused lot and have become a laughing stock of the public, in so far as Women Officers commissioned in the Armed Forces are concerned. This is what we gather from the recent media reports.
Can we not have women battalions solely comprising of Women Soldiers and Officers for IS duties in J & K , Assam, and the North East? I am certain their efficiency and efficacy will prove more positive and contribute to decline in terrorism. What is really beyond comprehension is that you throw out the Women Officers after 15 years of service without pension!

Nation on the March

Peace time army is really a waste of National resources. We should keep minimum effective force. Quality counts and not quantity. We have only one adversary. We cannot wage war with the other big brother. Let us solve the boundary issue and live in peace. Insurgency should controlled by law enforcing agencies of the state and not by Defence Forces.
Our poverty should be tackled. Government should down size babus and and its culture of employing degenerate Government servants. Let us concentrate on giving education to the masses. Let private industry operate freely without any controls. Let everyone pay the taxes. Allow the economy to grow. Let politicians retire at a ripe age of 65. Who cares for them anyway!
The central government should be a facilitator and ensure proper infrastructure development with matching investment in power transport and communications. The state governments should be made accountable and whipped to perform. Use CBI and RAW to hound the corrupt. The income tax department made transparent with simple procedures of paying taxes. Fewer rules simple and effective planning at grass root level will go in a long way for progress of the Nation.
Every citizen is valuable and should be made to contribute in very small measures so that he becomes a proud Indian. Every child is the torch bearer of the nation, becoming future leaders. If every adult aspires to ensure that children are given due importance for education and imbibing moral values our generation would be contributing towards the prosperity of our future generations.
Let the Politicians die a hundred lives on this earth for being corrupt, degenrate, and hampering the progress of the nation. The election reforms are long overdue and scumbags should not be eligible for being elected repeatedly. The vast population are manipulated by politicians to vote for a corrupt governance. The media should play a dominant role in the progress of the nation and expose the corrupt by use of Right to Information Act.
